Day 16: Breath Counting Meditation

Updated: May 3

Welcome back to our meditation journey. Today, we're going to explore breath-counting meditation, a technique that helps cultivate focus, concentration, and mindfulness.

Explanation of Breath Counting Meditation: "Breath counting meditation involves counting each breath as it passes, helping to anchor the mind and cultivate present-moment awareness. It's a simple yet effective practice that can be done anywhere, anytime."

Preparing for Practice: "Find a comfortable seated position and take a few deep breaths to centre yourself. Close your eyes or soften your gaze, allowing your body to relax. Rest your hands comfortably in your lap or on your knees."

Guided Breath Counting Meditation: "Begin by bringing your attention to the natural rhythm of your breath. Notice the sensation of the breath as it enters and leaves your body. You can focus on the rising and falling of your abdomen or the feeling of air moving in and out of your nostrils."

"As you breathe in, silently count 'one.' As you breathe out, count 'two.' Continue counting each breath, up to a count of ten, and then start again at one. If you lose track of your count or find your mind wandering, simply start over at one."

"Try to maintain your focus on the breath and the counting, gently bringing your attention back whenever you notice distractions or thoughts arising. Allow each breath to be a new beginning, a fresh opportunity to return to the present moment."

Conclusion: "Breath counting meditation is a valuable practice for cultivating concentration and mindfulness. By training the mind to stay focused on the breath, we can develop greater clarity, calmness, and presence in our lives.

Thank you for joining me today, and I'll see you tomorrow for Day 17, where we'll explore another aspect of meditation."
